Mercury (9)

Mercury

I move as silver water with a purpose
once I am released from my vault of cinnabar
You named me after a fast god and his planet
and then dared to catch me if you can

You thought I was First
the Adam of all Matter
and like that original man
all was myth

Early on you used me to bring health and beauty
not knowing those were the very things I take
Later you accused me of deforming your children’s minds
and destroying your elders’s lungs
from inside a cocktail dagger
yet of both I am blameless

Now you flex your understanding of me properly
seeing your Peles’s sending me into the air with their eruptions
and brush geniuses coloring the towns they see red with me

Was used in thermometers and paint until recently.

The Mall At Sunset

The Mall At Sunset

Dusk descends through a clear ceiling
and a thin layer of smoke inhabits the air
making it easier for the shade that are always there to come out

Beneath the sounds of life
rises the hum of a casino sans bells
with a different kind of gold to win
yet still the same to loose

It is a valley of churches
each with their own brand of salvation for sale

Dark glowing trinkets
nourishment for every appetite
A fetish is nothing but a bargain waiting to be found

The Sideshows are in the Midway now
and the Freaks hold the bullhorn and the whip
as mutual feeding frenzy ensues
and we prey on the predators we have become
